Fall Paper Craft with Cricut: 3D Fall Tree
Create a Stunning 3D Paper Tree for Fall: Free SVG File Included!
Fall is a season that bursts with vibrant colors and cozy vibes. What better way to embrace the beauty of autumn than by crafting your very own 3D paper tree? In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through the simple steps to create a stunning fall paper craft using my free SVG file for your Cricut machine (or Silhouette!). Get ready to bring the warmth of fall into your home with this delightful DIY project.
Materials & Tools You’ll Need:
1. Free SVG File
2. Cricut Machine or any cutting machine!
3. Assorted Colored Paper – I like to use 80 lb cardstock and textured but you can use any you like
4. Glue – I like Bearly Arts precision glue, it tries super quickly!
Step 1: Prepare the SVG File
Begin by downloading the free SVG file provided under the community SVG file site. You can learn how to download here for desktop and here for iPad/iPhone. Please remember to sign up for my newsletter below to grab the password to the vault.
Step 2: Upload and Customize
Upload the SVG file into Cricut Design Space. You’ll want to start by ungrouping and then changing the line on the bottom to a score line. If you don’t have a scoring stylus then you can delete this line. Make sure top attach it back to the tree trunk.
You’ll notice that the design consists of the tree base/trunk and the leaves. Duplicate the tree base and leaves and adjust the size to your desired dimensions. This is your chance to get creative – make it as big or small as you like! I ended up using 5 copies and had leaves left over. I made mine about 5 inches tall but I leave size totally up to you!! Make sure to resize everything together so the project stays cohesive.
Step 3: Cut Out the Pieces
Load your chosen colored paper into your Cricut machine and set the material settings to match the paper type you’re using. I like to use the medium cardstock setting on fast mode. Once you’re all set up, click ‘Make It’ in Cricut Design Space, and let the magic happen! Your machine will precisely cut out all the pieces you need.
Step 4: Assemble the Tree Base
Now that you have all the pieces cut out, it’s time to assemble your 3D paper tree. Start by folding along the score lines on the tree base/trunk. This will make it easier to form a circular pattern. Apply a small amount of glue to the trunk and branches and attach them to the opposite end to create a base. Hold it in place until the glue dries, ensuring a secure bond. The branches on both sides are the same so they line up perfectly, work your way around until you’re ready to connect the two sides.
Step 5: Add the Paper Leaves
With your tree base in place, it’s time to bring your 3D paper tree to life. Take the paper leaves you cut out earlier and arrange them around the tree branches. You can place them in a random pattern, overlapping and layering them for a realistic look. Use small dabs of glue to attach each leaf to the tree base. Be sure to mix up the colors to capture the essence of fall’s diverse foliage.
Step 6: Display Your Fall Paper Craft
Once all the leaves are securely attached, allow your 3D paper tree to dry completely. You can place it on a tabletop, mantle, or as part of your fall decor. It’s a beautiful centerpiece for autumn gatherings or a lovely addition to your seasonal decorations.
With just a few simple steps, a free SVG file, and your Cricut machine, you’ve created a stunning 3D paper tree that captures the essence of fall. This DIY project is perfect for adding a touch of seasonal charm to your home or gifting to loved ones. So, gather your materials, embrace the fall spirit, and let your creativity bloom with this delightful fall paper craft.
