Christmas Gift Tags Printable Free Download & SVG
The holiday season is synonymous with giving, and what better way to personalize your Christmas gifts than with handmade Christmas gift tags? Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or a DIY novice, these free printable Christmas gift tags provide a fun and festive way to add a personal touch to your holiday gift wrapping.
Below, I’ll guide you through hand-cutting your gift tags or with the aid of a cutting machine like a Cricut or Silhouette. These tags include some classic Christmas images like Christmas trees, Santa Claus, and gingerbread men, ensuring your gifts stand out under the Christmas tree. I am so excited to share this with you and even more excited to start adding free printables to my library! (This is my first major one!)

DIY Christmas Gift Tags
For those who appreciate the personal touch of hand-cutting:
Download the PDF File:
Start by accessing the download link for these free gift tags in the Community Vault. (Design Numbers #154 & #155) To grab the password simply sign up for my newsletter below, the welcome letter will arrive within 5 minutes. Please read here for simple instructions on how to download!
Print on Cardstock:
For best results, print your tags on white cardstock or sticker paper. Cardstock that is 65-80 lb gives your tags a sturdy, quality feel and ensures they hang beautifully on your gifts. For the sticker paper, you simply can cut and peel the backing to place onto your presents.
Cut Out the Printable Christmas Tags:
Use a paper cutter or scissors to cut along the tag outlines. If youโre feeling creative, you can shape the tags with decorative edges for an extra special touch (think zigzag or wavy scissors).
Optional – Punch a Hole:
Using a hole punch, make a hole at the top of each tag for tying. This simple step transforms your printed piece into a functional gift tag. You can also use something like a chopstick or the end of a pair of scissors (gently) to create the hole.
Customize Your DIY Christmas Gift Tags:
Personalize each free printable Christmas gift tag with names or holiday messages using festive markers or pens. This step is a great opportunity to involve kids and turn tag making into a family tradition! The cards should leave plenty of space to add a to and from right on the front.
Add Embellishments:
Enhance your tags with bakerโs twine, ribbons, or even glue gun embellishments such as faux berries or small bows for that festive touch.
Cricut Christmas Gift Tags
For those equipped with a Cricut, Juliet, or Silhouette:
Download SVG and PNG Files:
Access the SVG and PNG files for these free gift tags in the Community Vault. To grab the password simply sign up for my newsletter below, the welcome letter will arrive within 5 minutes. Please read here for simple instructions on how to download!
Upload to Your Device:
Import the files into your Cricut or Silhouette software, preparing them for customization and cutting. You will have to upload the PNG images individually (which I know is a pain and I am sorry). Make sure to upload these as a flat graphic – they are “watercolor” graphics and even though Cricut has the convert to layers option, it will not work great with these. Please feel free to use the Christmas PNGs for any other last minute crafts you might have.
Overlay and Size Adjustments:
To start overlay the images onto the tag shapes within your software and adjust the sizes to fit your needs. I made my images anywhere from .75 to 1 inch and then used my alignment tools to adjust them.
Color Customization:
Modify the colors of your tags before flattening, choosing a white background for printing is ideal – this is basically “clear” when you go to print. If you leave the tags the color they are, it may print slightly gray. I made them this color so you could see them. Plus, this is where you can get creative with holiday gift wrapping.
Add Text to Your Free Printable Gift Tags:
Use the softwareโs text tool to add personalized messages or names. This could include phrases like happy holidays, Christmas morning wishes, or even holiday season greetings. I did a simple to:____ and from:____. You can also leave this blank if you want to hand write anything in!
Optional – Add a Hole:
If you want to add a hole, please do so before flattening. I simply grabbed a circle and made it smaller than sliced (or subtracted) into the backing of the tag. You will have to fix the layering as Cricut sends modified images to the front.
Flatten Your Printable Gift Tags:
Combine all elements (text and images) into a single layer by flattening them within the software. This process prepares your design for printing. For Silhouette you will simply have it Cut Edge only. This part is VERY IMPORTANT when using a Cricut so do not skip!
Print and Cut:
Send your design to your printer, using sticker paper, cardstock paper, or photo paper for different effects, then load it into your machine to cut out the designs accurately. For cutting, you will have to choose your settings based on your material. For shiny photo paper or sticker paper, if your Cricut has trouble reading the registration lines you can easily rub a white crayon on the lines to make them more matte. From here, your machine does the rest of the work and you have your tags!
Printable Options and Materials
Both methods allow for flexibility in materials. You might choose card stock for a traditional feel or sticker paper for easy application. For a unique touch, consider using photo paper or even printable glitter paper to add a glossy or shimmery finish, making your free printable Christmas tags pop with vibrancy.
Creating your own Christmas gift tags is not just a craft; it’s a fun way to add a personal touch to your holiday gifts. Whether you opt for the simplicity of hand-cut tags or the precision of a cutting machine, the process is a delightful addition to your Christmas decor and it’s quick and easy! Incorporating festive touches like bakerโs twine or customized messages makes each free printable Christmas gift tag special, reflecting the spirit of the season in every gift you give. This year, let your creativity shine and make your gift-giving experience just as joyful as the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day celebrations themselves.
Hi Kelsey
Love all your designs and now christmas printables. Struggling to download the svg files and printables. I found them in the library and went to your tutorial page but cant find anywhere to click download. The buttons that do say download take me to differnet apps which want to install. Where am I going wrong?
Kind regards
Margaret Campbell
Hello!
I am not sure what type of browser you are using, computer vs iPhone etc. There is no “download” button simply a green link right under the title of the file that says “hand cut tags” or “tags svg” etc. Its the middle link, in the instructions its circled. This should download instantly once clicked. As for outside apps, I am not sure again what type of computer you have to say whether or not you need something to extract zip files which might be the case. I have the instructions for that as well. As for PDFs you may need an adobe reader for this. Thank you! Please email me kelsey@dinosaurmama.com for any other download issues.
