Cricut Design Space Set Up!
This card has more parts than I usually do but that’s ok! We are expanding our craft knowledge! Because this is a pop-up card the inside has a bit of a unique design to create the pop-up piece.
Start by un-grouping the whole file at the top and I moved my apple down towards the rest of the file. I tried so many times to get it there but for some reason that little apple wants to be on its own.
Starting with the gray segment of the teacher appreciation card you will drop down the many and change the black vertical line (with some horizontal), to a score line. The blue lines below it will stay a basic cut. From there, you want to attach! This is important so that all these pieces stay together.
Next, want to change the rest of the score lines on the other card pieces and attach them. There are three more (two black and one white).
From here, I resized. The card was designed to be around 5×7 inches when folded so our biggest pieces need to be 10×7 inches. If you moved the apple, resize the WHOLE SVG (always resize the entire design) and make it around 22.2 inches wide. This should give you close to 5×7. You can make the card however big or small you would like.
After that, I added the teachers name, for this piece I decided to cut this out with vinyl. Any personalization I leave up to you!
I cut the rest of the card out with the medium cardstock setting and because of the layers here, this is a thick card so I recommend a 65 lb cardstock! I used both my Cricut Explore and Cricut Maker to cut this one out!
Silhouette Studio Changes if you’re Using a Silhouette Cameo or Portrait
The only difference here will be in the send panel. You will work with Lines rather than Simple. Make sure to change the black lines on the card to score! I love the Silhouette Cameo scoring because they use a blade to cut a shallow line. It’s AMAZING! No blade switching, all in one smooth go!
Assembly of the Teacher Appreciation SVG
Step 1: Create the Pop Up Insert
Fold on the score line while pushing in the pop-up and create the creases. You want to have a gap in the side of the insert.
Step 2: Create the outside of the composition book
I folded my white insert first and then laid the black (you can do any color) on top. I used glue to attach these but you can also use a tape runner. Fold again in the middle.
Step 3: Attach the Spine
There is a black strip to fold in half and attach which will act like the spine of the composition book. This is separate if you want to make the main color different.
Step 4: Add the Rectangle
Glue on the two layers for where you would put your name. I used craft glue for this part as well.
Step 5: Assemble your Apple
Start with the red part of the apple then the stem and then the leaf. The stem will be glued across two pop-up pieces and so will the leaf. This will attach and make the pop-up a bit more solid
Step 6: Glue In the Pop-Up Insert
I start with one side, glue it down, and then repeat on the other.
Step 7: Personalize
I used a low-grip transfer tape and vinyl to add my teacher’s name to the front of the composition book card. You can add other handmade pieces here like a cute drawing from your student or a handwritten sentiment.
Once you have this completed, your card is done!
I am very proud of this card and happy to share it with you! It is the perfect way to show how much you love your favorite teacher on Teacher Appreciation Day or at the end of the year!
Thank you so much for crafting with me!
