How to Use Graduation Card SVG Files in Cricut Design Space

Follow these steps to upload and cut yourย graduation card SVG freeย designs inย Cricut Design Space:

Upload the SVG File: Open Cricut Design Space and click Upload โ†’ Browse Files โ†’ Select the free cut file from your computer.

Adjust the Card Size: Resize the card if needed by using the width and height settings in the top toolbar. Standard card sizes typically range from 4×6 inches to 5×7 inches. For the grad era card, it’s a square so I would aim for 4×4 or 5×5.

Check the Score Lines: If your design includes score lines, make sure to change the line type to “Score” and attach them to the appropriate layer.

Attach the Design Elements: Use the Attach function to keep all the elements together, ensuring they cut properly.

Load the Standard Mat: Place cardstock on a standard mat, load it into your Cricut Maker, Cricut Explore, or Joy Xtra, and press Go to start cutting.

Assemble the Card: Once cut, fold along the solid scorelines and attach any layers or embellishments as needed.


How to Use Graduation Card SVGs in Silhouette Studio

If youโ€™re a Silhouette user, hereโ€™s how to prepare your free graduation card SVG file in Silhouette Studio Designer Edition:

Import the SVG File: Open Silhouette Studio Designer Edition and import the attached file.

Set Up Cut and Score Lines: ensure score lines are set to “No Cut” or “Score” depending on your machine.

Perform a Test Cut: To avoid wasting material, do a test cut to check the cut lines and score lines before finalizing the card.


Troubleshooting Common Issues

If you’re experiencing issues with your graduation SVG files, here are some quick fixes:

  • Score lines not showing? In Cricut Design Space, ensure the scoring wheel or scoring stylus is selected and properly attached.
  • SVG file not uploading? Try unzipping the file first. If using Silhouette Studio Basic Edition, convert the SVG to DXF format. You can do this for free yourself using Inkscape.
  • Sizing issues: โ€‹Make sure to resize the whole project and not just one layer to ensure proper designs.
