Step-by-Step Tutorial
Prepare Your Materials
- Download the free SVG file from my blog and upload it to your cutting machine software.
- Resize the file to your desired dimensions, keeping the proportions intact.
- Cut the petals from your chosen cardstock color.
Organize Your Chrysanthemum Flower Petals
Sort the cut petals by size:
- 2 largest petals
- 2 slightly smaller petals
- 3 medium petals
- 2 small petals
- 2 + 1 smallest petals for the center
Shape the Petals
- Place each petal on a foam sheet for shaping.
- Firstly, pinch the petals:
- For the first layer – some towards you and some away.
- For the second large set, pinch all towards you, for the next sets (2 slightly smaller but still large, and the 3 medium, pinch all towards you. The last 5 layers do not need pinching.
- Firstly, pinch the petals:
- Use a ball tool to gently curl the edges of the petals:
- For the largest paper chrysanthemum flower petals, curl the ones pinched towards you inwards, the ones pinched away, curl away.
- Everything else will be curled in towards the center of the flower.
- You can create a small lip by using the ball tool on the flip side towards the end of the petal.
- For 5 smaller layers, focus on creating an inward curl with the bone tool and ball tool.
Assemble the Flower
- Start with the largest petals. Apply a small amount of glue to the base of each petal and layer them, slightly rotating to fill gaps.
- Continue layering from largest to smallest, ensuring the petals create a full, rounded flower.
- For the center petals, shape them into a tight curl using a bone tool or smaller ball tool and glue them securely in the middle of the flower.
Final Touches
- Adjust the petals for a natural look.
- Next, allow the glue to dry completely before displaying your flower.
Tips for Success
- Use high-quality cardstock for sturdier petals and a professional finish.
- Additionally, experiment with different colors to match your decor or seasonal themes.
- Remember, ball tools make shaping easier, but a bone folder or even a pen can work in a pinch.
Stay crafty!
