Rainbow Box SVG Free – Create a 3D Template with Cricut
If you love 3D paper crafts, you are going to adore this rainbow box!
This adorable rainbow design is perfect for kidsโ birthdays, classroom treats, party favors, baby showers, or even a festive St. Pattyโs Day surprise.
Best of all? This is one of my free SVG files. Letโs walk through everything step-by-step.
Materials and Tools

*this blog contains affliate links at no extra charge to you, read my full disclosure here.
- Cardstock – I am using an 80 lb textured. This weight is great for creating a sturdy box.
- Craft glue – my perference for quick drying and hold
- Cricut machine or cutting machine of your choosing
- Standard grip or light grip mats
- Scoring stylus
Finished Rainbow Box Size
As designed, your finished gift box measures approximately:
- 6 inches wide
- 3 inches deep
- Just under 3 inches tall
If you want to slightly increase the size and maximize a 12×12 sheet, you can resize the full design in Cricut Design Space to 25.2 inches wide, which adjusts the longest panel to 11.49 inches.
This rainbow design scales beautifully, but keep in mind if working with Cricut Joy series you will be limited on size due to mat dimensions.
Step 1: Cricut Design Space Setup (Sizing & Score Lines)
Upload the svg file into Cricut Design Space.

Once on your canvas:
- Resize if wanted
- Click Ungroup
- Locate all score lines in the Layers Panel
- Change each from โBasic Cutโ to โScoreโ
- Select each panel with its matching score lines
- Click Attach

Attaching is critical. Without it, your Cricut machine wonโt know where to place the score lines correctly.
If you donโt have a scoring stylus or scoring wheel (Cricut Maker users can use either), you can delete the score lines and manually fold along the cut marks later.
This setup ensures your svg cut files cut cleanly and assemble smoothly.
You can adjust any colors before sending.
Step 2: Cutting the Rainbow Box

For best results, use:
- A thicker cardstock
- Medium Cardstock or Heavy Cardstock material setting, depending on your material and blade sharpness
- Standard fine-point blade
Rearrange your pieces on the mat preview screen to maximize paper use and reduce waste.
Your cutting machine will separate mats by color for each rainbow design layer.
Pro Tip: Pull your mat away from the paper, not the paper away from the mat, to prevent curling.
Allow all files to finish cutting before starting assembly.
Step 3: Folding on Score Lines

There are two main curved pieces:
- The lid (larger half-circle, shorter side panels)
- The base (smaller half-circle, thicker side panels)
Fold inward on all score lines for both pieces.
If you accidentally fold the wrong direction, donโt panic, just flip it during assembly.
This step gives your gift box clean structure and helps maintain the smooth rainbow curve.
Step 4: Attaching the Side Panels

Using craft glue, attach the bottom flap of the flat side to the back panel.
Then for the curved top, work in small sections of 3โ4 flaps at a time. This helps maintain the smooth arch shape and prevents gaps.
Keep flaps on the inside for a polished finish.
Repeat the same method for the base. The assembly process is identical, just pay attention to which piece is your lid and which is your bottom.
Once all side panels are attached, your box structure is complete.
Step 5: Attaching the Details on Top

Now itโs time for the fun part.
Layer your rainbow in ROYGBIV order:
- Red
- Orange
- Yellow
- Green
- Blue
- Indigo/Violet
Glue each arch onto the lid (top of the box), aligning the flat bottom edges carefully.
Then attach your cloud pieces.
You could even add:
- A name for a birthday
- A St. Pattyโs Day message
- Small paper flowers along the arch
- Vinyl personalization
Machine Compatibility
This project works with:
- Cricut Maker
- Cricut Explore series
- Other Cricut machines
- Silhouette Studio (Designer Edition or higher required for SVG support)
- Any cutting machine that accepts SVG files
Joy series machines can create a smaller version but may not accommodate full-size dimensions.
