To make this project, you’ll want to gather the following craft supplies:
- Cricut Maker, Explore, or Joy (or any compatible cutting machine)

- Glitter or foil cardstock – optional
- Standard Grip mat or Light Grip mat
- Glue (I used Bearly Arts!)
- Scoring stylus or scoring wheel
How to Upload and Resize in Cricut Design Space
Once you download your free Christmas card SVG and upload it into Cricut Design Space, it will likely appear a bit oversized. Don’t worry — it’s easy to adjust!

- Resize the design to a height of around 6.3 inches — this will ensure your card fits in a standard 5×7 envelope.
- Ungroup all layers to isolate each part of the design.
- Locate the score lines (they’ll appear as solid black lines) and change them from Basic Cut to Score Line using the dropdown menu.
- Select the corresponding cut layer + score line and Attach them.
- Repeat for any remaining horizontal lines that should be scored (there are two for the box sides and two for the base).
This quick tip ensures that your holiday card folds perfectly and stands up like a little 3D fireplace scene!
Color Sync & Customizing Your Card Designs
Once your layers are organized and score lines attached, you can customize your card designs using the Color Sync panel in Cricut Design Space. I kept my palette traditional with reds, greens, browns, and golds but this box card would also look stunning in icy blues or even all glitter cardstock for a little bit of extra festive sparkle.
If you want a merry Christmas card with fewer mats or less layers, feel free to flatten or combine some of the ornaments or decorations — but I love the dimension this one gives!
Cutting Tips for Free Christmas Card SVG Files
Before you hit that Make It button, here are a few quick reminders for clean cuts and stress-free crafting:
- Use 65-80 lb cardstock for the base layers to ensure a sturdy box shape.
- Use Standard Grip mats that are free of lint or debris — this keeps delicate layers from tearing.
- Always double-check your settings for score lines vs. cut lines — this is one of the most common mistakes, especially for free cut files like this one!
And don’t forget: this free Christmas SVG file is layered and ready to go. Just load your mat and go!
Assembling Your Box Card (Step-by-Step)
Now for the fun part: putting everything together!
Glue down the details: Start by attaching the decorations to your Christmas tree, plate, and brick fireplace. Use the original SVG as a reference.

Add your embellishments: Cookies can be arranged however you like. Use a click of a button to zoom in on Design Space if needed.

Assemble the tree panel: Don’t forget the trunk! Layer your pieces so that they match the layout on screen.
Fold along the score lines: Your base and green side panels should be pre-scored. Fold carefully and crease with your hand or a bone folder.
Attach the side panels: The green insert goes inside the folded base to create the “box” shape. Line up the folds to ensure it sits flush.

Glue the back panel on: This includes the brick wall and fireplace area, you’ll want to line it up with the sides so your card sits evenly when standing.

That’s it! You’ve got a dimensional holiday card that folds flat, fits in an envelope, and looks amazing standing on a shelf.
